"Mercy" is a single from the album Rockferry by Duffy. Co-written and produced by Steve Booker. The song which has received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance was made available for download in the UK from 11 February 2008 and was released physically on 25 February 2008.
On 17 February, the song entered the UK Singles Chart at number one solely on download sales and remained at the top of the charts for five weeks. The retro-soul style is given further significance by the appearance of several Northern Soul dancers in the song's video. As of 25 July 2008, Mercy has been viewed on YouTube over 25 million times."Mercy" is included in the FIFA 09 soundtrack.
Mercy was the best selling single of 2008 in the UK with over 420,000 sales until the end of the year when it was overtaken by Hero by the X Factor Finalists and Hallelujah by X Factor winner Alexandra Burke. Mercy was the third best selling single of 2008 in the UK with over 500,000 sales. Elsewhere, it managed to chart within many countries top ten end of year bestseller lists. Interestingly, in Australia, despite only attaining a peak of 26, it was the 72nd biggest selling song there in 2008. This included a Gold certification, certifying 35,000 sales in Australia.
